Federal health agencies today called for an immediate pause in use of Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose coronavirus vaccine after six people in the U.S. developed a rare disorder involving blood clots.
What happens next? From what we know now, these blood clots are extremely rare. Scientists will examine the possible links between the vaccine and the disorder before determining how they move forward.
This is an example of the system working — we discovered a problem and we’re doing something about it. We also have two other excellent vaccines that make up the bulk of COVID-19 immunizations in the country: 97% percent of the total doses administered in the U.S. were produced by Pfizer and Moderna.
